Medical and Scientific Advisory Board
A prestigious scientific advisory board has been assembled to guide OrthoCell in its efforts. Members of the board are located primarily in Australia with one member based in Toronto, Canada.
Professor Samuel Asculai
Samuel Asculai is Chairman of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board. He brings over 38 years of cross-functional experience at senior executive level in the pharmaceutical, chemical and biotechnology industries. He has held positions that have included executive and research roles.
Professor David Wood
Professor David Wood is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with clinical practice based at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Hollywood Private Hospital in Western Australia and is a full Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Western Australia. His interests include musculoskeletal oncology, joint replacement, revision surgery and Cartilage transplantation and have established a retrieval, screening and transplantation programme for large anatomic specific allografts in Perth.
Professor M. H. Zheng
Professor M. H. Zheng is the inventor of the ATI and CellGro technologies. He is the Director of Research at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, School of Surgery and Pathology, University of Western Australia. Previously he held the position of CSO for Verigen Australia and established a clinical GMP laboratory and has been involved in cultivating cartilage cells for the surgical implantation for several years. This service has been provided to orthopaedic surgeons over 180 hospitals in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and China. Throughout Professor Zheng’s career he has published over 110 peer reviewed scientific paper and journals, and is named as inventor on 11 patents.
Mr. Greg Janes
Mr Greg Janes is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specializing in knee and upper limb surgery. Greg has experience with clinical delivery of cellular therapeutic interventions via his development of the arthroscopic implantation of the ACI technology. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (British) and Chairman of the Fellowships committee of the Australian Orthopaedic Association .
Mr. Ray Crowe
Mr Raymond Crowe is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon. He specialises in sports surgery including shoulder and knee surgery with a particular interest in shoulder and knee tendon and ligament reconstruction. Prior to training in orthopaedic surgery, was a sports physician to the Melbourne Football Club and the Australian Olympic Ski Team for several years.
Mr Crowe has a special interest in the arthroscopic treatment of rotator cuff tendon injuries, arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation together with ACL ligament injuries and shoulder replacement surgery.
Mr. Alan Wang
Mr Alan Wang is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hand and shoulder surgery. Alan Works both in the private and public health systems and has a strong interest in orthopaedic research as demonstrated by his 30 plus peer review publications. Allan has a particular interest in regenerative cell therapies in orthopaedics and its potential for clinical application to the problematic areas such as tendons, cartilage and bone.
Mr. Gerard Hardisty
Mr Gerard Hardisty is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specializing in knee and lower limb surgery Gerard works both in the private and public health systems and is currently head of the orthopaedic department at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital in Perth Western Australia. SCGH is the major tertiary teaching hospital in WA Mr Hardisty pioneered the application of ACI in the ankle joint and is one of the lead members of the Australian foot and ankle society. Mr Hardisty has a particular interest in tendon and ligament injuries and performs over 200 Achilles tendon reconstructions per year.
